The Diop is a conference of Afrocentric scholars devoted to the critique of domination and the reconstruction of African culture on the continent and in the Diaspora. Each year the Diop Conference gives special recognition to outstanding scholarly articles, books, and activist scholarship and service to leaders in the field of Africana Studies. Named for the late Senegalese scholar, Cheikh Anta Diop, the conference brings together hundreds of scholars from around the world to explore dimensions of African philosophy, history, culture, economics, and traditions.

The largest assembly of Afrocentric scholars gathers each year at the Cheikh Anta Diop International Conference in Philadelphia for the latest research and presentations on African agency. The most prestigious awards in the field are given for the best articles, books, and initiatives in Afrocentric research. The Cheikh Anta Diop International Conference is recognized for its outstanding scholarship in all theoretical, methodological, analytical and critical subjects. Scholars who are committed to the advancement of Africology as a discipline rather than as an aggregation of subjects about African people and who are determined to underscore the classical foundations of the discipline with serious interrogations of ancient and contemporary Africa, Caribbean, and American realities are invited to send proposals dealing with the Afrocentric paradigm, theories of location and dislocation, Pan Africanism and Afrocentricity, methods of Afrocentric research, and the application of cosmological, axiological, epistemological, and aesthetics/technological modes of inquiry.
