Schedule:

Flexible; roughly 10 hours per week for a maximum number of 520, with the exact schedule to be determined.

Overview:

The Louisa County Historical Society is seeking an organized, enthusiastic program manager to oversee the society’s grant-funded African-American history initiatives. This is a multifaceted endeavor involving community outreach, volunteer and project coordination, public programming, digital content creation, historical research and writing, and budgeting. The program manager will be in direct communication with a community advisory council and LCHS staff.

The program manager’s primary focus will be as a liaison between the community advisory council and the historical society and to oversee the implementation of public history projects chosen as a result of the partnership between the community advisory council and the historical society. The program manager will work with the historical society’s director to achieve the selected project goals. The program manager will also work with the bookkeeper to ensure accurate recording of grant expenditures and with the volunteer and program coordinator to ensure accurate recording of volunteer hours.

Duties:

  • Scheduling and facilitating community advisory council meetings
  • Overseeing the implementation of selected project goals
    • The program manager may directly oversee a project or they may coordinate with a stipend-paid researcher and/or volunteer coordinator who is directly overseeing the project depending on the nature of the project. They will be responsible for ensuring that researchers and coordinators have access to needed resources such as archive material, computer equipment, software, office space, meeting locations, etc.
  • Ensuring that projects stay on schedule and communicate any needed adjustments
  • Maintaining documentation of grant expenditures and volunteer hours
  • Maintaining paperwork and electronic communications associated with projects
  • Preparing monthly progress reports for the community advisory council and board of directors
  • Giving remarks and presentations about the grant project to community groups and meetings (ex. Board of Supervisors meeting)
  • Assisting in drafting midterm and final reports

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated time management, organizational, and communication skills as well as attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Interest in public history and in gathering and sharing the everyday stories of community members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education and/or professional experience in the public history field
  • Previous work experience on grant-funded programs, volunteer coordination, and/or community outreach
